Academy fans dressed in a “USA” theme for the Vikes takedown of St. Charles in a 23-16 win on Thursday, September 14, giving the Vikes their fifth to tally at 5-0.

By the end of quarter one, the Cardinals scored two touchdowns while the Vikings remained at zero. But Academy picked up steam in the second quarter with defensive end Mikey J. and running back Greyson T. both sprinting to the end zone to score touchdowns. Kicker Abe U. converted an extra point, tying the game 14-14 at the half.

Amid the thrill of the game, fans enjoyed a special performance during halftime: the Ohio State School for the Blind brought its marching band, putting on a spectacular show. Sophie L., an Academy band member, says, “It was super cool to watch them play!”

After the band raised spirits, quarterback Jack Y. contributed a keeper touchdown in the third quarter, bringing the score to 20-14. With four minutes left, Parker S. intercepted the Cardinals, regaining possession of the ball. As the night drew to a close, Abe U.’s three-point field goal ended the game with a 23-16 win.
