Girlls Swim Season Starts

Academy’s Aquavikes hosted their first meet onWednesday, November 30, against Fairfield Union.

The girls claimed several first-place finishes in the 200 relay, with Olivia L. wing the 200 free. Ella L. and Clara S. took the top two spots in the 200 IM with times of 2:29.48 and 2:44.24. A new member of the team, Maddie E. won the 50 free with a time of 26.94, followed by Rene F. in 27.86. Olivia L. and Ella L. finished as the top two in the 100 Fly with a 1:05.29 and a 1:11.22.

Academy continued dominating the competition with wins in the 100 free, 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstroke, and 100 breaststroke and crushed the competition 107-48. Hoping to keep this momentum, the Vikes were optimistic about their chances in the Ned Reeb Invitational the following Saturday at OSU.

Ar 6:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3, the Aquavikes were in the pool warming. Unlike other meets, the girls were facing Division 1 teams despite being in D2. Only five girls qualified for the A-flight.

In prelims, Olivia L. qualified for the A-final in the 100 free, but all three relays made it back to finals. 

At finals, the 200 medley relay finished with a time of 2:01.07, the relay consisted of, Ella L. at backstroke, Rene F. doing breaststroke, Clara S. for the fly, and Maddie E. finishing with free. Afterward, Olivia L. placed 8, in the 100 free dropping 1.69 seconds since the morning with a time of 54.39. The girls went on to place 15 in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.27. To finish the day-long meet, the aquavikes finished the 400 free relay in a 3:55.24 putting them at 14th.

Up next for the Vikings is a fun drive to Gambier, Ohio, where they will compete at Kenyon College on Saturday, December 10, at 9:00 a.m.
