April 2 and April 3 of 2022 marked the first days of Ramadan as millions of Muslims began what is the month-long fast during the holiest time of the year. 

Here are 10 facts to know about this holy month!

Fasting is one of the five main pillars of Islam.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

For 30 days Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and abstain from drinking or eating.

Muslims follow the lunar calendar so the date Ramadan starts is different every year.

During Ramadan, the Quran was revealed to the holy prophet Muhammad. This is why Muslims try to read as much of the Quran as possible. 

For Muslims, this month is for breaking bad habits and forming new ones to bring them closer to God. 

Helping others in need and giving to charity is required during Ramadan.

In this month it is said that everyone’s good deeds are multiplied by 70.
