Girls Swimming Wins First Meet

As 2021 comes to a close, Academy’s swim team season has just begun, and on Friday, December 3, the Lady Aquavikes started the season with a win against Bishop Watterson, beating the Eagles 87-83. 

At the meet, Rene Fleege, Mary Kate Prall, Emma Yakam, and Lauren Klinefelter finished second in the 200 medley. Maintaining that energy, the Aquavikes earned their first first-place finish of the season from senior Alexandra Butnariu with a time of 2:09.86 in the 200 freestyle.

Shortly after Klinefelter placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.88, Olivia Lewis placed second in the 50 freestyle finishing in 25.53 seconds. Then, Butnariu snatched a first place finish in the 100 freestyle while Klinefelter placed first in the 100 Backstroke.

Ending the meet with a time of 3:57.95, Ella Lowrie, Prall, Butnariu, and Klinefelter took gold in the 400 freestyle relay, with Julia DeVore, Camille Hannallah, and Olivia Lewis and Clara Stevens finishing second. 

On Saturday, December 4 the Vikings hosted Gahanna Lincoln, Delaware Hayes, Bexley, and Wellington in a relay meet. The Aquavikes placed 3rd with 74 points, beating Bexley and Wellington.

The girls placed fourth in the 500 freestyle relay with a time of 6:33.81; third in 400 medley relay (4:28.49), 800 freestyle relay (8:56.37), 300 medley relay (3:33.32), 200 butterfly relay (2:00.74), 300 backstroke relay (3:41.38), and 300 breaststroke relay (3:39.59); and second in the 200 freestyle relay (2:17.59) and 400 freestyle relay (4:07.35). 

With a great start to the season in the first two meets, the Aquavikes look forward to the next meet against Grandview heights this Friday at CA.
