The boys swim team took fifth out of thirty-four teams at the Central/East/Southeast District meet on Thursday, February 18, at Bowling Green University. The Aquavikes finished the meet with 146 points.
The Vikings competed with three other districts for one of the twenty-four spots in individual events and for one of the sixteen relay spots at the state meet. The fastest two swimmers in each district automatically qualify for the state meet, but the other spots are based on the fastest times.
The Vikes got off to a quick start in the 200 medley relay, where Alek Balaloski’23, Drake Bellisari’22, Cyrus Hannallah’22, and Gavin Lewis’23 and scored 28 points with their fifth place finish.
Lewis, Bellisari, and Balaloski racked up the points in the 50 free with their respective third, fourth, and fifteenth place finishes.
The three then sprinted with Cy Richardson’22 in the 200 freestyle relay to secure silver, automatically qualifying for states.
Lewis and Bellisari also swept the deck in the 100 freestyle to clock in at 49.63 and 51.36 seconds for sixth and thirteenth place, respectively.
Richardson secured nineteenth in the 200 freestyle with a 1:57.77, while Jono Hammond’23 nabbed twenty-first in the 500 freestyle.
Balaloski and Richardson sprinted through the 100 butterfly to nab twelfth and fourteenth at 58.10 and 59.62 seconds, respectively.
William Harpster’24 continued the momentum in the 200 IM to receive ninth place, with Hannahllah close behind at fifteenth. Later, the pair competed in the 100 breaststroke, where Harpster secured ninth again and Hannallah moved up to eleventh place.
Balaloski, Bellisari, Lewis, and Richardson head to states on Thursday, February 25, at the Branin Natatorium to compete in the 200 freestyle relay.
