On Tuesday, January 19, the Columbus Academy boys bowling team broke the all-time program record for a single game with 2072 points against Hamilton Township. Academy’s star bowler, Vincent White’21, broke the individual record, putting up 212 before securing 267. Following a 278 in practice, Jacob Mowery’23 continued his success with 172 and 163. Seniors Gabe Taub put up 155 and 178, followed closely by Cole Leis with 156 and 166. Ryan Reagan’22 wrapped up the match, scoring 139 and 147. The boys impressed with their stellar performances, but they ultimately fell to the Rangers 2072-2114.
Following their loss, the striking Vikings bounced back in the MSL bowling championship on Saturday, January 23. The boys nabbed a third place finish behind Whitehall and Grandview Heights, respectively. White earned the prestigious honor of all MSL 1st team, coming in fifth individually with 207, 176, and 179. Leis made all MSL 2nd team and secured a spot in the top ten, bowling 136, 188, and 186. Finally, Reagan was an honorable mention, putting up 180, 148, and 147. Mowery and Taub just barely missed the honorable mention cut, but both bowlers had solid performances. Mowery bowled 117, 169, and 178, while Taub scored 171, 171, and 106.
In the end, it was a phenomenal week for CA boys bowling. Unfortunately, the girls did not bowl this week, but the boys made them proud by breaking records and proving that Academy’s bowling program is one to be reckoned with.
The Vikings look forward to a busy week with four straight days of matches. On Monday, January 25, the team will face off against Beechcroft at the Sequoia Pro Bowl, before taking on Hamilton Township yet again on Tuesday, January 26, at Wayne Webb’s Bowland. The JV bowling team will host Teays Valley on Wednesday, January 27, at home, before finishing the week at HP Lanes on Thursday, January 28, against Marion Franklin.
