Girls Soccer Ties Buckeye Valley, Defeats Whitehall

Summer warm-ups. (Josh Tu’21)

The Vikings were looking to pick up steam this week against two league rivals as the regular season begins to draw to a close.

Our girls opened up the week traveling to Buckeye Valley on Wednesday, October 7. CA came out a little shaky, conceding a goal early in the first half. But, our girls quickly struck back, with Sam Whitson’24 notching her first goal of the season to tie the game with around 25 minutes remaining in the first. The rest of the contest was a back-and-forth affair. Then with stellar defensive efforts by the Vikes back line and goalkeeper Sophie Spolter’22, it ended in a 1-1 tie.

Searching for a win, our girls showed up at Academy on Saturday, October 10, ready to face off against Whitehall. Despite being on the attack for the majority of the first half, the Vikes couldn’t get one past the Rams goalkeeper. After a quick break, the team came out rejuvenated, and applied pressure until freshman Ella Lowrie scored back-to-back goals at the end of the second. With only a few minutes remaining, the Rams attempted to get on the board, but were promptly shut down, handing the Vikings a 2-0 victory.

Our girls have a busy last week of the regular season coming up, with a home game against Wellington on Tuesday, October 13, followed by an away game against Tree of Life on Thursday, October 15. CA will close out the week on Saturday, October 17, with a face off against Bishop Rosecrans.
