Coming off a strong 8-1 start to the season, the field hockey team hosted its undefeated archrivals, Thomas Worthington, on Carlin Field on Tuesday, September 22.

Our girls came out with high intensity, looking to defend the team’s home turf against the Cardinals, and put high pressure on Thomas. This intensity paid off early when Regan Cornelius’21 earned and capitalized on a penalty stroke to give the Vikes the lead.

The pace of the game continued  throughout, and Academy’s relentlessness led to a second Cornelius goal. The Vikes exceeded Thomas’s quality, winning a tough game at  2-0 and improving its record to 9-1.

On Saturday, September 26, the Vikes returned to Carlin Field to play against Ursuline Academy and feeling confident after the big win. Our girls came out strong, but couldn’t break through until the second half, when the floodgates opened.

Two goals from Carolyn Vaziri’22, and another each from Cornelius, and Maren Lawrence’23 gave the Vikes a strong lead. Despite a comeback attempt from Ursuline near the end, which resulted in one goal for the visitors, Academy held on for a 4-1 win, adding a tenth win to its record.

The 10-1 Vikings face Bishop Hartley at home on Tuesday, September 29.
