The Columbus Academy girls basketball team dropped two league games, falling to both Bexley and CSG.

On Tuesday, January 21, the Vikes took on the Bexley Lions, hoping for revenge after a loss in the previous week. Early on, it appeared as if the Lions would cruise to a win, as they led by 14 at the half. 

Sophomore Claudia Warstler’s steal led to a transition jumper for her classmate Sophie Spolter in the third quarter and a subsequent Warstler three-pointer cut the Lions lead to 10. 

Still trailing by 10 later in the quarter, Warstler hit another trey to get the Vikings back within single digits.

Early in the fourth, Warstler hit her third 3-ball of the night to bring the Vikes to within 3. That’s as close as the girls would get, as the Lions pulled away to win 45-37. 

The Vikes traveled to CSG to take on the Unicorns. This was a defensive battle from the start, as neither team eclipsed a 25% shooting percentage. The Unicorns took the low-scoring affair, 28-24. They outshot the Vikings, 67%-60% from the free-throw line in what would be the deciding factor. 

Our girls look to get on track on Tuesday, January 28, when the team takes on the Whitehall Rams.
