Academy strives to maintain its large community impact in its annual Service Day, Empty Bowl events, and Faculty and Staff Service. One of the most beneficial functions that Academy hosts are its many Blood Drives that take place in our Athletic Entrance.
Academy hosted its first Blood Drive of the new year on Wednesday, January 15. This drive was supervised by Mrs. Christy Bening, Coach Craig Yakscoe, Alicia Crain, and Debra Hansen-and organized by students coordinators, Carolyn Zhang, Lindsey Dunlap, Alisha Mohsin, Jared Kass, and Charlie Belford. Although many previous donors graduated last year, the wave of newly-turned 16 year old sophomores helped keep our numbers up to par. Donors received free Chris Cakes, a fun twist on the popular pancakes.
Fifty donors gave blood, with an end result of 42 units, including 3 units from the power red cell donations. With 42 units of blood collected, there’s the potential to save 126 lives.
