On Tuesday, October 15, our girls faced off against Olentangy Berlin, a second-year team seeded 18, at home in the first round of the state tournament.
Following a game against Pioneer High School where the team conceded its first two goals of the season, the Vikes had a fire in their bellies. Despite the projected win for Academy, the team brought its A-game.
Junior Regan Cornelius started the scoring for the Vikes, finding the back of the cage twice early in the match. Even two goals up, Academy did not back down, with Kiersten Thomassey’20 (1), Sarah Klingerman’21 (2), Amelia Bruggeman’21 (2), and Maren Lawrence’23 (1) each. Finally, Cornelius capped off the game for Academy with one more goal, bringing the final score to 9-0.
Our girls will face off against 11-seed Granville at home, who they beat 9-0 in the regular season, in the second round of tournament play on Tuesday, October 22, as the team continues on its path to a state-championship defense.
