Girls Tennis Impresses with 3-0 Week

The Columbus Academy girls tennis team continued its winning streak with a dominant set of matches, picking up three big victories. With a record of 10-4, the Vikes are determined to continue their momentum to districts. 

The Vikings triumphed over Olentangy with a 3-2 win on Monday, September 16. Junior Carolyn Tsung kicked off the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win, while Alex Graham’20 followed close behind at second singles with a 7-5, 6-2 victory. Sophia Sommer’21 fought hard but was overwhelmed and lost 3-6, 1-6. Anna Chang’23 and Lauren Motta’21 brought the momentum back with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 win at first doubles. Naomi Chen’23 and Amiya Tiwari’22 attempted to close the matches with a victory, but were edged out 1-6, 5-7. 

After that close match, CA steamrolled Whitehall with a clean 5-0 sweep on Tuesday, September 17. Chen triumphed over her opponent 6-0, 6-0, while Emily Motta’23 crushed her competitor with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Tiwari followed at third singles, also defeating her rival 6-0, 6-0. The doubles teams continued the dominating momentum, as the duos of Lauren Motta and Tsung along with Aanika Karumsi’22 and Chen combined to win both matches 6-0, 6-0. 

Our girls welcomed Buckeye Valley on Thursday, September 19, easily defeating the Fighting Barons 5-0. Sydni Ratliff’21 kicked off the match with a tremendous 6-0, 6-0 victory, with Tsung following suit, also with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Graham triumphed over her opponent at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Sommer and Lauren Motta sailed by their rivals 6-4, 6-2. Emily Motta and Hanna Yakoob’20 brought it home with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The Vikes will travel to Granville on Monday, September 23, before taking on Worthington Christian away on Tuesday, September 24.
