At its annual September event, Apple released news of its upcoming products, including the fifth series Apple Watch, the “iPad,” Apple TV+, and of course, the highly anticipated iPhones 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max.

The new iPhones boast double and triple back cameras. The iPhone 11 cameras have wide and ultra-wide lenses, giving the device a 120- degree field of view. Both the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Maxes, on top of the wide and ultra-wide lenses, gain a telephoto lens, giving an enhanced quality when taking photos or videos at a distance. All three phones also gain a night mode for taking pictures in dimly-lit environments and a feature called QuickTake, which makes switching from taking a picture to taking a video much faster and more convenient.

Another emphasis of the new iPhones is their dramatically increased battery life. Compared to their predecessors, the XR, XS, and XS Max, the 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max gain increases of about one, four, and five hours of battery life, respectively. For reference, this means that they can play up to 17, 18, and 20 hours of video playback. The reason for this upgrade in battery life is partially due to the new phones containing Apple’s most powerful and efficient processor to date: the A13 Bionic chip. It not only increases processing speed and power, but also uses drastically less energy than the previous generation’s A12 Bionic chip. For the 11 and 11 Pro, another factor for the increase in battery life is their physically larger batteries. This makes them slightly thicker than the generations before them, although this increase is near negligible at about 0.4 millimeters thicker than the XS and XS Max.

The 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max are already on the Apple website for preorder and will begin shipping on September 20. Apple’s next scheduled preview is the October event, and the expected topics are MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and iPad Pro related.
