The Columbus Academy field hockey team extended its undefeated streak to 7-0 with a win at Worthington Kilbourne on Wednesday, September 11, two days before a home game against Shaker Heights in one of the toughest matches of the year on Friday, September 13.

The Raiders came out aggressively, pressing hard and defending well, but anytime they got the ball into Academy’s half of the field, the Vikings’ defense immediately shut them down. This dominant possession and aggressive defense meant that the Raiders conceded multiple penalty corners, with one early in the first half, leading to a goal from junior Charlotte Adams, assisted by Sarah Klingerman’21.

Shaker Heights didn’t give up easily, but Regan Cornelius’21 set up Adams with another penalty corner for a second goal.

The rest of the game was fought hard, but the Vikes were in control and continued playing shutdown defense, not giving the Raiders a single shot. It was a dominant 2-0 win for Academy, which boosted its record to a flawless 8-0.

Coming off of the big win the day before, the Vikes trounced Ursuline 4-0 at home on Saturday, September 14, with two goals from Cornelius and one apiece from Ashley Reynolds’21 and Kiersten Thommassey’20, which extended the Vikes’ record to nine wins and shutouts and zero losses.

This coming week is one of rest for our girls, as they only play once on Wednesday, September 18 at New Albany.
