After a successful sectional meet, Academy’s AquaVikes looked to continue their momentum at districts on Thursday, February 14. Competing against 36 other teams, CA took first at the meet with 251 points overall, and all top-5 performances from the Vikes advanced to states.
The 200 medley relay of seniors Jack Campbell, Eric DeVore and Jacob Eismann, plus Mike DeAscentis’20 took first with a time of 1:36.43. Shortly after that, Junior James Cao placed fifth in the 200 free, swimming a 1:54.52.
Jacob Beck’19 and Drake Bellisari’22 placed 13 and 24 in the 200 IM, respectively.
Eismann, DeVore, and Campbell got first, fourth, and fifth places, respectively in the 50 free, as Ethan Nankervis’19 placed 13 in the same event.
Bellisari palced 12th and Cy Richardson’22 placed 27th in the 100 yard butterfly.
DeAscentis took the gold in the 100 free with a time of 47.92, and Cao placed ninth in the event with a time of 51.57. Beck tied for 15, clocking in at 53.23.
The Vikes’ 200 free relay of Campbell, DeAscentis, DeVore, and Eismann also netted a first-place win with a time of 1:28.47.
Eismann set a meet record for the 100 backstroke with his winning time of 49.73 seconds.
Cyrus Hannallah’22 took twelfth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.74.
Rounding out the meet, Campbell, Cao, DeAscentis, and DeVore took first in the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:18.01.
All places fifth or higher advance to states meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton from Wednesday, February 20, to Saturday, February 23. For those swimmers that did not advance, this has still been a wonderful end to a great season.
