Vikings Turn in Strong Performance at Eagle Invitational

On Saturday, January 26, the Columbus Academy wrestling team recovered from a tough match on Wednesday, January 23, when it hosted Buckeye Valley and West Jefferson and dropped against the Roughriders 47-21, and  to the Fighting Barons, by placing well at the Eagle Invitational.

Seven Vikes placed at the January 26th Eagle Invitational: freshman Gyvnn Mendenhall’s came in 2nd at 195, and sophomore Chris Sugar (138) and senior Thomas Jones’s (182) took 3rd in tightly contested weight classes. Seniors Cole Duffy (6th at 220) and Eric Menq (4th) and sophomores Keir Gorosope (5th at 132) and Ethan Stahl (5th at 182) rounded out the finishers for Academy.

The Vikes will get a tune-up at West Jefferson on Thursday, January 31, before taking part in the regional tournament on Saturday, February 2, at Nelson-York High School. The 11th seeded Vikings will open up the tournament against 6 seeded West Muskingum.
