Columbus Lantern Exhibition: Dragon Lights

From now until January 6, 2019, the international touring exhibit, Dragon Lights, will be on display in the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio Expo Center. Presented by Tianyu Arts & Culture Inc., Dragon Lights features large, illuminated Chinese lanterns made by artisans from Zigong, Sichuan, described as “China’s cultural capital for the ancient art of lantern-making.”

In addition to access to the lanterns, admission also includes opportunities to watch Chinese handicraft demonstrations and traditional performances. Beijing Opera face-mask changing and acrobats attract vast crowds as the showtimes are limited. From Sunday through Monday, these events take place at 6:30 pm and 8 pm, while every Friday and Saturday, there is a third show at 9 pm.

Dubbed the “Panda Theater,” a group of panda lanterns encircles real-time camera displays on which guests can observe live pandas from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the theater also plays Chinese movies with English subtitles.

Ticket prices bought at the door are $19.00 (adults) $14.00 (children) (5-16), $16.00 (military members with ID), $16.00 (seniors) and free for kids under 4. Online tickets bought ahead of time each have a $2. discount, and a family package is available for purchase as well.
