Despite posting an impressive 20-5 record last year, another frustrating tournament loss has the CA boys basketball team entering its new season with a vindictive attitude. The Vikings have reloaded their roster and seem ready to contend for an MSL and District title once again.
The departure of the class of 2018 will sting, but Academy has more than enough talent to fill in the cracks.
Moultrie is an all-around point guard that will be looking to build upon a sensational campaign in which he led the Vikes in scoring and assists. He was named to the all-MSL first team last season. Warstler will be alongside him in the backcourt, a smooth athlete whose energy will spark CA. Compton is the Vikings’ best defender and sets the tone with his physical style on both ends of the court. Boyle joins him on the wing, a versatile power forward that is a sniper from distance. He led Academy in threes made and was a first-team all-MSL selection last year. DeCree rounds out the starting five, a bruising big man with excellent vision and a soft touch in the paint.
The Vikes’ bench is impressive as well. Cobb is a terrific ball handler that will provide a punch of scoring and playmaking. Klingbeil returns from an injury that kept him out all of last year and will boost CA with his athleticism. Scott brings valuable leadership and hustle and is a slasher offensively. Cahall is a reliable presence around the basket and will give the Vikings a lift at both ends of the floor. Cooperman has flashy handles and knows how to stuff the stat sheet. Murry is a pure shooter that can heat up at any moment. Priest is a dynamic scorer with deep range. Finally, Kass thrives in transition and can ice games from the free-throw line.
Academy kicks off its season with a trip to Western Reserve Academy on Friday, November 30.
