Girls Soccer Loses at End of Season

The Vikings faced off against first-seeded Grandview Heights in the district semi-finals on Wednesday, October 24, with a place in the district final at stake.

Having tied the Bobcats 1-1 earlier in the season, our girls knew this was going to be a tough match up. Neither team had an edge after the first half of intense play, with the ball swinging to both sides of the field and neither team having a majority of possession. This pattern continued throughout the second half, with our CA Vikes unable to get a goal despite several opportunities.

With the score remaining at 0-0 after the ninety minutes of regulation play and two additional fifteen minute overtime periods, the teams advanced to penalty kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Kennedy Jackson had an outstanding save against Grandview’s first shooter, but the Vikes failed to capitalize on their advantage and also missed their first kick. Unfortunately, Grandview’s second striker managed to slide one in to win the game and knock our girls out of the tournament.

Finishing the season with a 9-4-4 record, the Vikings are looking forward to bouncing back and make it even further in the tournament next year. Though our girls are losing five seniors, they are a young team with a lot of talent, and they look forward to seeing what the next season brings!
