On September 24, Academy’s In-the-Know team faced Centennial High School at the Fawcett Center on Ohio State University’s campus.

In-the-Know, a quiz-bowl styled program, hosts two teams of four from schools throughout central and southern Ohio. Questions cover a wide variety of topics: current events, sports, sciences, math, geography and literature. Head coach and club advisor Dr. Andy Morris leads this year’s bookish powerhouse.

The quartet, composed of sophomores Lucas Huang and Gabe Taub, junior Andrew Cahall, and senior Aden Weiser, entered the Fawcett Center ready to take the season opener. Lack of experience, however, exhausted the Vikes and left them trailing by 10 at halftime, 145 to 155.

The team’s only returning member, Weiser, rallied his troops at the half in hopes of spurring a comeback. The other three polymaths, given some time to warm up to the environment, turned the game around and led the charge to secure the win, 400 to 280.

Academy recovered from its largest deficit after halftime when Huang correctly answered a string of questions in a 0 to 90 round, tallying 70 points, adding to the Vikes momentum.

Weiser scored the most points, followed by Huang, Taub and Cahall.

Looking back on the match, team captain Aden Weiser said, “I think it was a great season opener for our team. Everyone had a chance to shine, and I appreciated the amount of confidence we had going into the match. I only hope that we can get better.  I’m looking forward to what comes next.”

The season opener aired on Wednesday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. on WOSU.

The team’s next match against Thomas Worthington takes place on Monday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Fawcett Center.
