Girls Tennis: Undefeated in Regular Season

In their final regular season match, the Vikings traveled to New Albany on Wednesday, October 3, to take on a perennial tennis powerhouse.

Everything worked perfectly for CA, as the Vikes cruised to a 4-1 victory. Freshman Carmen Merkel picked up a huge win at first singles winning 6-3, 7-5. Academy only dropped the second doubles court but picked up strong wins on the others. This solidified an outsranding regular season for CA, topping off the already impressive year thus far. But the team isn’t completely satisfied. Our girls want the state title.

Individually, the girls competed on Friday, October 5, at home for the sectional tournament. The Vikes qualified six of the seven varsity players for the District Tournament next week at Kirk Campus. Sophomore Sydni Ratliff is seeded first in the singles draw after not dropping a single game in the sectional bracket. Himaja Reddy’19 and Alex Graham’20 comprise the number one seed in the doubles draw, while the dynamic duo of Lauren Motta’21 and Merkel is the second seed.

The District Tournament takes place next Thursday, October 11, and Saturday, October 13, at CSG’s Kirk Campus.
