The Academy girls track team competed in two meets, one they hosted, and the other at Canal Winchester’s Invitational.
As CA celebrated its seniors on Monday, April 23, the Vikes also competed in their first individual meet of the season. The girls posted a multitude of victories, along with a team score of 63 to take down Centerburg.
On the track, freshman Hannah Clay won the 400 and senior Bri Dragin took the 200. Freshman Regan Cornelius had a standout performance, winning both the 800 and the 1600. Academy also took victories in the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relay categories.
In the field, the first place finishes continued to roll in, with senior Khloe Dubenion in discus, junior Ginnie Ma in long jump, and sophomore Mabry Nichols in high jump
The girls then hit the road for the Canal Winchester Invitational on Friday, April 27, and placed eighth. Although the team didn’t have its strongest finish, there were several outstanding individual performances.
Junior Sammie Kass ran impressively, taking second in the 800, and sophomore Annalise Grammel followed suit, nabbing second in the 1600.
Nichols earned another second place in the high jump, as she continued her sensational year.
The squad looks ahead to three meets when the Vikings host Northside Christian, Patriot Academy, and Tree of Life on Monday, April 30, travel to the Africentric Track and Field Invitational on Friday, May 4, and compete at the Mount Gilead Invitational on Saturday, May 5.
