Looking to continue its hot streak with a pair of home wins, the Academy girls lacrosse team instead fell to both New Albany on Tuesday, April 24, and to DeSales on Thursday, April 26.
The Vikes knew they would be tested from start to finish by New Albany. CA battled throughout the game, led by a sensational four-goal performance from Lexi Leader’19 and eight saves by freshman goalie Ashley Reynolds. Nonetheless, the Eagles proved to be too much, as they took down the Vikings, 12-8. The loss was disappointing, but the girls put forth a valiant effort against the second-ranked Division 1 team in the state.
Hoping to bounce back, Academy took to the turf once again as it squared off against DeSales. The contest was tied heading into halftime, 3-3, with fairly even stat-lines between the two squads. The second half was more of the same, and the score was knotted at 7 when the end of regulation was signaled.
Unfortunately, DeSales was first to score in extra time, and the Stallions escaped with the win. Although the draw controls, turnovers, and ground balls were fairly even between the two teams, there were slight discrepancies in shots on goal and saves that occurred. The biggest difference, however, came in terms of penalties: the Vikes notched twelve more fouls in regulation than their opponent.
A slow week lies ahead for CA, as the Vikings only host CSG on Thursday, May 3. Coach Anne Horton’s squad will look to regain momentum against the Unicorns as the home stretch of the regular season approaches.
