The Academy girls track team competed in two meets this past week, placing fifth at the Gahanna Relays and seventh at the Bloom-Carroll Invitational.
The Vikes took a trip to Gahanna-Lincoln on Wednesday, April 18, to take on multiple Division 1 teams and placed well in several events. On the track, sophomore Annalise Grammel took second in the 800, before the team of junior Ginnie Ma, sophomore Sarah Neltner, and seniors Bri Dragin and Muriel Goldfarb grabbed fourth in the 800 sprint medley.
Meanwhile, in the field, senior Khloe Dubenion took sixth in discus, and classmate Lexis Hughes snatched eighth in shot put. Sophomore Mabry Nichols impressed as well, placing fourth in the high jump.
CA’s best finish of the day came from the team of freshman Regan Cornelius, Grammel, and juniors Mercedes Crestanello and Samantha Kass, as the girls earned a first-place finish in the distance medley.
The squad then hit the road to participate in the Bloom Carroll Invitational on Saturday, April 21. Junior Maddie Tuckerman took fifth in the mile, and Samantha Kass ran her best event of the season, topping twenty-six other runners to win the 400 meter.
Goldfarb dazzled as well, taking fourth in the 200 meter dash before snatching first in the 4×400 meter relay with Kass, Crestanello, and sophomore Rachel Raque.
Nichols and Dubenion continued to shine, finishing second in the high jump and discus, respectively.
The Vikings return to action on Monday, April 23 at Centerburg, before heading to Canal Winchester on Friday, April 27.
