The Academy girls lacrosse team displayed the benefits of its months of training in the second week of regular season play, as the girls came away with wins over Granville and Bishop Hartley.

The Vikings continued their stretch of away games, as they traveled to Granville on Tuesday, April 10, to challenge a tough Blue Aces squad. The two clubs engaged in a physical contest, and neither squad backed down. CA’s offense was fairly consistent with strong communication and an abundance of attempted shots. On the other end, the Vikes’ defense recovered from a slow start and improved throughout the game with off-ball focus and great marking. 

The game was tight from start to finish, but Academy’s perseverance paid off in the end, as the girls took a 13-10 victory. CA was led by 4 goals from junior Lexi Leader and 9 saves by freshman goalie, Ashley Reynolds.

The Vikings stayed hot on Thursday, April 12, as they hit the road to clash with Bishop Hartley. Academy got off to a slow start in the early minutes on both sides of the field, but our girls soon came to life. The Vikes’ offense exploded, which led to a more steady defensive effort, as CA cruised to a 19-8 win. Junior Tani Obikunle led the Vikings with 4 goals, while Leader and sophomore Emma Belford each had hat tricks.

The girls look to build upon their 3-game win streak, as they travel to Wellington on Tuesday, April 17, host Bishop Watterson on Thursday, April 19, and go to Hawken on Saturday, April 21.
