The CA boys track team launched its season on Saturday, April 7, at the Big Walnut “Red Edwards” Relays and put its best foot forward in biting winds and bone-chilling temperatures that challenged all runners.
Senior Chris Heermann, junior Liam McCann, sophomore Charlie Sabgir, and freshman Luke Nester kicked off the meet by taking third place in the 4×1600, with a time of 20:19.82.
Academy rode the momentum and continued to dominate the distance events. Seniors Nick Robie, Nick Watson, and Kieran Law, along with McCann, triumphed in the lap medley relay, taking first against nine other teams. Law and McCann started the group off with strength. Robie followed and left his opponents in the dust and gave the Vikings a spacious lead, which allowed Watson to run to a comfortable win.
Freshmen Sam Huyghe and Jared Kass along with Watson and Robie followed suit in the distance medley relay and also beat nine teams to take first in 8:20.10.
Senior Karibi Hart, Law, and juniors Dorrian Moultrie and Harry Mills ran the strongest sprints of the day, taking fourth in the 4×200. The boys finished with a time of 1:36.53.
The boys race again at CSG on Tuesday, April 10, and on Friday, April 13 at New Albany.
