After a streak of great performances from the CA ice hockey team, the Vikes ran into a roadblock when they faced off against a loaded St. Charles squad on Sunday, February 4. The Cardinals’ high flying offense was just too much for Academy, as St. Charles won, 7-2.
With St. Charles’ impressive depth and the absence of our co-captain, Cole Walker’19, Academy knew it had a lot of stepping up to do.
St. Charles came fresh out of the gate, scoring two goals in the opening period. The Vikes didn’t back down though. With just forty seconds left in period one, CA notched a goal of its own. Junior co-captain, Gunnar Geiger, scored an absolute lazer from the blue-line to bring the Vikes within just one.
But the Cardinals used their depth and number of lines to overpower CA, taking control of the second and third periods with impeccable defensive and aggressive offensive plays. The Cardinals’ number of bodies on the roster just proved to be too much for the Vikes. Academy did not give up even in the dying stages of the game. Top goalscorer, Jacob Sardo’19, kept his goal streak alive with a nicely strung together coast to coast goal to finish off the game.
CA looks to get back on track with a rematch against Olentangy on Friday, February 9.
