The CA boys basketball team is still perfect, as it moved to 12-0 on the season with blowout victories over Patriot Academy and London.
On Thursday, January 18, the Vikes hosted Patriot Academy, and steamrolled their way to a 58-22 victory. Junior Dorrian Moultrie and classmate Hayden Compton—making his first career start—came out of the gates swinging, as the pair scored CA’s first 9 points. Moultrie led the Vikings with 11 points on the night, and Compton finished with 9.
Facing a 13-3 deficit heading into the second period, the Eagles desperately tried to get back in the game. They pulled to within 5, but it was as close as they would get. CA stepped on the gas, closing out the half on a 14-5 run.
With a commanding 27-13 lead at the break, the Vikes’ bench players got extended minutes in the second half. Seniors Davis Friedman and TJ Whitman, along with junior Deven Cobb, all got into the scoring column, as the Vikes coasted to a win.
Academy then took a trip to London on Saturday, January 20, for a rematch with the Red Raiders. The first meeting between the two teams was an instant classic, with the Vikings pulling out a 67-65 victory in double overtime. This time around, CA made it clear that it was the superior team, romping to a 59-27 win.
After the first quarter, it seemed as if another thrilling finish was inevitable. The Vikes held just a 2-point lead, and London looked determined to avenge its first loss to Academy.
But CA turned up its energy on both sides of the floor, and proceeded to blow the doors off of the Red Raiders, outscoring them 51-21 for the remainder of the game. Compton led the way with 12 points, fellow junior Dalyn DeCree added 11, and 5 other Vikings had at least 5, in an impressive all-around performance from CA.
Academy has two tough tests approaching, as the Vikes will travel to Centerburg on Tuesday, January 23, before returning home to host Worthington Christian on Friday, January 26.
