The freezing weather outside has not cooled off the CA boys basketball team, as the blazing hot Vikes have run their record to 10-0 with a 77-49 win over Western Reserve Academy on Saturday, January 13.
Behind fast starts from their big men, senior Addis Boyd and junior Dalyn DeCree, the Vikings raced out to a big lead early. Boyd finished with 12 points, and DeCree had 11. But WRA didn’t flinch and closed the deficit to just 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, CA turned up its defensive energy, and the Vikes’ full-court press began to force turnovers. With juniors Chris Boyle and Dorrian Moultrie converting on the other end, Academy’s advantage tripled, and it led 33-18 at the break. Boyle had 13 points on the night. Moultrie added 10.
With the game not quite out of reach yet, junior Hayden Compton took over for the Vikings. The forward single-handedly put away Western Reserve Academy for good, dominating inside the paint and wreaking havoc on defense. Compton had the best game of his career, finishing with 16 points and 16 rebounds. He also racked up 4 steals and 2 blocks and is establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the MSL.
CA’s lead had ballooned to 25 by the end of the third quarter, allowing the Vikes to rotate their bench into the game to close out the win. The Reserves got valuable playing time and experience, as senior Davis Friedman and juniors Deven Cobb and Evan Scott all saw the floor for Academy.
The Vikings produced yet another impressive performance. They will put their perfect record on the line when they travel to Northridge on Tuesday, January 16.
