Students and faculty in the Dining Hall during lunch on Wednesday, October 25, were treated to a curious sight. Instead of lunch’s usual clamor, everyone was intrigued with the 2017 QUEST Art Fair.

Academy’s QUEST, a group dedicated to student artwork, planned the event, which focused on highlighting various forms of artwork at Academy and resulted in a fulfilling experience for all. Paintings, drawings, and photography were displayed around the room and featured a wide array of content, accompanied by poetry recitations from students. The fair let any desiring students pick a poem that appealed to them and perform it. Esther Lawrence’18 even read a stunning poem that she composed.

At the same time, the fair also featured several live art exhibitions. Juniors Sophia Tidwell and Camille Reeves, along with senior Lauren Fumi, were all set up around the art fair. Viewers could watch as these artists worked on live projects. These showcases provided an interesting glimpse into the actual process of the artwork.

Using the size of the expanded Dining Hall, the art fair moved from its previous location on the Senior Quad. By taking place simultaneously as students were eating, the new location attracted an impressive crowd. This change made the fair much more accessible, as students no longer missed it due to being at lunch.

The combination of dazzling 2D artwork and several live elements created an excellent showcase of Academy’s artistic talent. Several other opportunities to display student artwork will surely follow.
