Riding a wave of momentum, the girls tennis team traveled to Upper Arlington on Monday, October 2, to take on the Golden Bears. The Vikes defeated UA 4-1, and looked forward to returning home to finish the regular season.
Academy faced its toughest opponent of the year against Dublin Jerome on Tuesday, October 3. The Vikings put up a tough fight, but were unable to close the regular season with another win as they took a 4-1 loss to the Celtics. This marked the end of an incredible ten-game winning streak.
Although the loss was a tough pill to swallow, the Vikes were forced to look ahead to Sectionals, held on their home courts on Friday, October 6, and on Saturday, October 7.
The girls unleashed their frustration on the rest of the field, as everyone on the team won her match in dominant fashion and earned favorable seeds for Districts, which begins on Monday, October 9, and ends on Saturday, October 14.
Sydni Ratliff’21, Alex Graham’20, and Lauren Motta’21 earned the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd seeds, respectively, in the singles bracket.
In the doubles bracket, the pairing of Georgia Tuckerman’18 and Himaja Reddy’19 earned the 1st seed, and Lexis Hughes’18 and Maddie Tuckerman’19 will have the 2nd seed.
Along with the singles and doubles tournaments at Districts, the Vikings take on Wellington in the team District Finals on Wednesday, October 11. If the girls win, they will punch a ticket to the Final Four of the Division 2 State team tournament.
