The boys soccer team faced some tough competition on both Monday, September 25, and Thursday September 28. They fought hard until the end, but some unlucky penalty kicks caused the Vikes to come up short in both contests.

On the September 25the Senior Night, the team honored Connor Brown, Jay Chester, Karibi Hart, Justin Kahle, Kieran Law, Jack Ostrowski, Angus Soderberg, and Randy Yan, as the Vikes faced Hamilton Township.

Tyler Schlonsky’19 netted the first goal, putting the Vikes in the lead throughout the majority of the first half.  But toward the end of the first 40 minutes, Academy’s defense got scrambled, followed by a penalty in the box. The Rangers capitalized on their free shot and tied up the game going into the half.

After the break, the Vikings dominated possession of the ball. But a questionable call in the final 15 seconds awarded Hamilton Township another penalty kick. The Rangers converted again, and CA lost, 2-1.

Unfortunately, the match against Westland on Thursday finished with similar results. Once again, the Vikes started the game off strong, this time with a goal from David Barren’19. But Westland responded with a goal two minutes later. The Academy gave up a penalty kick to the Cougars and relinquished the lead.

Neither team scored in the second half, with the Vikes walking away with another 2-1 loss.

The boys are ready for the biggest week of their regular season. On Wednesday, October 4, they travel to Bexley, looking to tame the Lions. On Saturday, October 7, the boys play against their other rival, Grandview, at MAPFRE Stadium, home of the Columbus Crew.
