Field Hockey Makes Triumphant Return

After last year’s devastating loss at the district finals to rival and state-champion Thomas Worthington,  this year’s field hockey team was ready to start its season with a bang. The team went to its annual clinic at University of North Carolina over the summer, and for the first time since 2012, placed first in the camp’s tournament.

When official practices started up, the girls eagerly welcomed new freshmen ( after losing six seniors). Under the leadership of seniors Olivia Ryan, Kelley-Marie Antoine, and Maddie DeAscentis, the Vikings are ready to avenge last year’s loss.

The Vikings faced Upper Arlington this past Tuesday, August 22, at home. As a great way to start the new school year, our girls won 5-0 against the Golden Bears, with goals scored by DeAscentis, Callista Popp‘19, Sammie Kass’19, Abby Yakam’20, and Reagan Cornelius’21.

Academy continued its winning streak later that week on Thursday, August 24, in a victory against Dublin Jerome. The Vikes beat the Celtics 5-0, with DeAscentis, Popp, Yakam, and Mercedes Crestanello’19 all scoring goals.

This year is sure to be a great one for this team. They have 2 games on Wednesday, August 30, at Worthington Kilbourne, and another on Saturday, September 2, at Oakwood.
