Boys Lacrosse Stumbles Into Tournament

The CA boys lacrosse team closed out the regular season with 2 losses this past week. The Vikes finished the year with an 8-5 record.

On Tuesday, May 9, Academy traveled to St. Francis DeSales, looking to earn its third consecutive win. Unfortunately, the Stallions proved to be too much, romping over the Vikings, 16-7. DeSales raced out to a 9-2 halftime lead then coasted to the finish line with its lead firmly in place. Sophomore David Barren had a hat trick, and senior Roman Bellisari added 2 goals for Academy in the losing effort.

On Friday, May 12, the Vikings hosted their arch rival Bexley on senior night at Hondros Field. Recognized were Brett Bates, Will Belford, Roman Bellisari, Drake Budzik, Anthony Sugar, and Kyle Vorys. Playing with a boost of energy from the pregame ceremonies, CA jumped ahead to an early lead. The Lions battled back, however, and took a halftime lead. From there, they fended off the resilient Vikes to squeeze out an 8-5 victory. Barren again led Academy with 3 goals and finished the year as CA’s leading goal scorer.

Despite the shaky end to the regular season, the Vikings have earned the #6 seed in the district tournament. They will host the #11 seed Dayton Carroll Patriots on Tuesday, May 16, in the first round.
