Boys Track: April 25 and April 28

The Vikes started off a successful week ,with a win on senior night, Tuesday, April 25, in a dual meet against Canterbury on the 28th. 

The team’s Senior Night was bittersweet. For Bob Kirk’67, it was his year of coaching 43 years of track

With four team state titles, four state runner-ups, 21 individual state champions, nine regional team titles, 22 district team titles, and 17 league team titles, Kirk retires with an unimaginable amount of hardware and an outstanding legacy. 

On Friday, April 28, the boys faced nine opponents at the Ranger Invitational. They boys outdid their already impressive performances earlier this season, placing at or towards the top of almost every event.

Karibi Hart’18 set a personal record in the 100 with a time of 11.40, earning second place out of 18.

KJ Boyce’17 followed suit in the 200, also grabbing second place with a time of 23.16. From there, he reigned in the 400, winning with 51.03.

The Vikes stayed at the top for distance too. Grayson Mick’17 and Nick Watson’18 dominated the 1600, running their way to first and second places, respectively, with times of 4:37.15 and 4:39.25. 

Nick Robie’18 won first place in the grueling 3200 by scalding the track in 10:04.17, a full ten seconds in front of the next fastest runner.

In the 300 hurdles, Tommy Mampieri’17 performed at his usual level of excellence and took third place out of 11 with 43.00.

Taking third place in the 4X200 were seniors Anthony Thomassey, Hunter Moffett, Michael Kusi, and Harry Mills’19. Likewise, seniors Dylan Warren, Mampieri, Angus Soderberg’18, and Liam McCann’19 took third place in the 4×800.

In addition to superior running performances, Jacob Taub’17 and Caleb Crawley’19 earned sixth and seventh places, respectively in shot put with distances of 38-09.00 and 37-02.50. Taub also earned sixth place in discus with a throw of 112-05. In long jump, Ezra Johnson’20 set a personal record to earn seventh place with a distance of 17-09.25. 

The team finished in fourth place with a score of 98 points.

On Tuesday, May 2, the team travels to Kirk Campus to face multiple opponents.

 On Saturday, May 6, the Vikes compete in the Mt. Gilead Invitational.
