After a dominant week in which the CA boys lacrosse team went 4-0, the Vikes split a couple of home games this week against two tough opponents.
On Monday, April 24, the Vikings took on the Buckeye Valley Barons. The squads traded blows for the majority of the game, until Academy finally pulled away in the fourth. A late comeback attempt by the Barons fell short, and CA squeaked out its 5th straight win, 13-11. Freshman Andrew Swartz led the Vikes with a hat trick, and seniors Will Belford, Roman Bellisari, and Kyle Vorys all chipped in with 2 goals apiece. Buckeye Valley junior Nathan Heiser had an amazing 7-goal performance in the loss. Brimming with confidence, Academy looked to extend its streak when it hit the field again two days later.
On Wednesday, April 26, the Vikes hosted the Bishop Watterson Eagles. The talented Watterson squad rolled over CA, 17-4. Eagles’ seniors AJ Rigsby and Riley Taylor had 5 and 4 goals, respectively. The Watterson defense was also dominant, as Academy had trouble all game getting quality shots. Despite the lopsided loss, the Vikings will use this game as a learning lesson as the home stretch of the regular season approaches.
The Vikes will look to bounce back when they host Westerville Central on Monday, May 1.
