Way to Go, Girls Lacrosse

(Julia Gurevitz’19/Media Team)

On Tuesday April 4, the girls lacrosse team took on Granville and came out with a blazing start, putting up a few unanswered goals before the Granville team had even gotten its bearings.

Eventually, the Blue Aces rallied and put a few on the scoreboard, but it became clear by the beginning of the second half that the Vikes were running away with it.

A whole host of players put up points on the scoreboard for the Vikings, including sophomores Lexi Leader, Tani Obikunle, and Avie Smith, with additional key goals by senior Baylee Mueller and saves by junior Kelley Antoine.

The Vikes had a show-out performance against an historically tough opponent. They had electrifying offensive strikes and a stifling defense the entire night.

On Saturday April 8, the team faced a harder obstacle. Yet every goal the Lady Vikes scored was matched by Bishop Hartley.

At the end of the first half both teams had put up five points. The Vikes quickly jumped ahead with a 7-5 lead, only two minutes into the second half. Hartley was snuck in a final goal with 7 seconds left, so the teams finished with a 12-12 tie at regulation.

The game went into double overtime (3 minutes long). After some water and words from coach, the girls were ready to finish off the game.  With a remaining 1:10 into the second overtime, sophomore Lexi Leader scored the winning goal for the Vikings.

With two great wins this past week, the girls are ready to take on Hilliard Bradley on April 12.
