Grayson Mick’17 at Big Walnut. (Chris Heerman’18/Media Team)
The Vikes took little time off after their previous Saturday meet and faced Worthington Christian, Grandview, Northside Christian, and Newark Catholic on Monday, April 3, placing third with 42 points in front of Northside Christian and Newark Catholic.
The boys competed again on Saturday, April 8, in the Big Walnut Invitational. As with last Saturday’s meet, this meet only included relays and team-based events. Although Academy did not participate in multiple sprint relays or field events, its strong performances were impressive in several distance events.
Chris Heermann’18, Grayson Mick’17, Nick Robie’18, and Charlie Sabgir’20 nabbed first place in the 4×1600 with a time of 19:32.54. They defeated the second place team by a solid 28 seconds, while placing in front of five other teams.
With the time 11:29.03, seniors KJ Boyce, Dylan Warren, Grayson Mick, and junior Nick Robie also maintained a presence in the distance medley by locking in second place out of nine team, and only behind Bishop Watterson.
The team finished with 23 points in tenth place out of thirteen. This, however, misrepresents the boys’ talent and rather reflects the lack of event participation.
On Wednesday, April 12, the Vikes compete in their first home meet.
The Vikes compete against at the Mansfield Mehock Relays (away) on Saturday, April 15.
