The CA boys lacrosse team went 1-2 in its first week of the regular season, as the Vikes won their season opener before dropping their last 2 games.
On Saturday, April 1, Academy hosted Pickerington Central to open its 2017 campaign. Powered by a hat trick from sophomore David Barren and a pair of goals from senior captain Kyle Vorys, the Vikings rolled to an 8-6 victory. But the Vikes would need to play even better to build on their momentum.
On Monday, April 3, CA again stayed home, this time welcoming Hilliard Davidson to Hondros Field. Academy hung close for the majority of the game before Davidson freshman Trent Nuccetelli took over, allowing the Wildcats to pull away. The Vikings defense struggled to slow down the Davidson offense throughout the game, showing how much the unit needs senior captain defenseman Anthony Sugar to be fully healthy. Sugar is playing restricted minutes because of an injury. After their next game was postponed due to weather, the Vikes looked to rebound with a win on their first road trip.
On Thursday, April 6, CA traveled to St. Charles to take on a tough Cardinals squad. The Vikings played a great game but were still edged out by the talented Cards, 8-5. Academy seemed flustered by St. Charles’s suffocating defense and could not develop any rhythm offensively. Despite the loss, playing a competitive game against a great team is a positive sign for the Vikings moving forward.
After an 11-day break, CA will finally return to action on Monday, April 17, when they host the Hilliard Darby Panthers.
