The CA boys basketball team punched its ticket to the second round of sectionals on Monday, February 27, breezing past Elgin, 69-48.
After a full week of rest, the Vikes came out completely energized. They played a suffocating defense and capitalized on the other end, sprinting ahead to a 19-6 lead after the first.
Desperate to keep their season alive, the Comets tried to claw back into the game in the second quarter. But they simply had no answer for sophomore Dorrian Moultrie, junior Addis Boyd, and the Vikings.
Moultrie led Academy with 13 points, and Boyd had 11 in addition to skying for rebounds all night.
With a 30-18 halftime lead, the Vikes rotated their entire bench in the second half. The reserves got valuable experience and also took full advantage of the opportunity, as 12 different Vikings scored in the game.
Academy took a comfortable lead into the fourth and then coasted to the finish, blowing out the Comets.
After one its largest margins of victory all year, CA will prepare itself for its second round opponent, West Jefferson.
The Vikes are 2-0 against the Roughriders this year, and they welcome them into The Mack on Wednesday, March 1.
