The CA boys basketball team lost its regular season finale on Friday, February 17, stumbling to arch rival Bexley, 53-48. The Vikes finish the regular season with a 15-7 record and have now set their sights on sectionals.
Playing in front of its home crowd for the first time in a week, Academy raced out to a 9-1 lead. However, with the help of a few questionable calls from the refs, the Lions came storming back to take the lead. Soon, things evened out, and the two teams traded blows throughout the second quarter. Senior Nick Stringer, who led the Vikings with 15 points, connected from deep multiple times, and Academy went to the locker room with a 27-26 lead. The lead would not last long, as Bexley turned up its defensive energy in the third quarter. The Lions held CA to just 4 points in the period and took a 35-31 lead heading into the fourth. They stretched out their lead to 11, and despite a late comeback attempt by the Vikes, were able to hold on for the win.
A successful regular season has put the Vikings in great post-season position.
They have earned a #2 seed in the tournament and will put their season on the line in Round 1 against #16 seed Elgin on Monday, February 27.
