Boys Basketball Hammers Gahanna Christian

Riding a 4-game winning streak, the Academy boys basketball team took a trip to Gahanna Christian to play the 7-5 Eagles on Tuesday, January 17. The Vikings left no doubt who the better team was, playing perhaps their best game of the year in an 82-56 blowout.

Throughout the season thus far, one of the Vikes’ only weaknesses has been how they start. CA often finds itself behind after the first quarter and—although they are usually talented enough to recover—are forced to play catch-up. This game, however, was a different story. The Vikings busted out of the gates and took a commanding 22-10 lead after the first period.

Despite holding a comfortable advantage, Academy did not take its foot off the gas pedal. Junior Ryan Mitchell and sophomore Chris Boyle both caught fire from deep, and the Vikes continued to pound the Eagles. Mitchell led the team with a career-high 17 points, and Boyle added 11. By halftime, CA had amassed a 47-24 lead. With the win locked down, the Vikings bench closed out the game, giving the reserves valuable experience.

The Vikes are the hottest team in the league and seem ready for their rematch against Whitehall. The Rams handed Academy its first loss of the season back in December, beating the Vikings 69-63.

CA will look to avenge the loss at The Mack on Tuesday, January 24.
