After an unfortunate couple of losses last week, both girls’ basketball teams were ready to redeem themselves and win. Although the Vikings worked repeatedly on ball movement, the varsity team lost both of its matches, and the JV went 1-1. Whereas Academy’s JV team won 40-31 against Grandview Heights on Tuesday, January 10, our varsity girls lost 54-23.
On Friday, January 13, both teams had narrow defeats against the Whitehall Rams’ aggressive play and a few missed calls. The JV girls lost 33-17 loss.
The varsity team showed grit, rallying back from a 10 point deficit at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Notably, sophomore Tani Obikunle made a free throw with five seconds left to send the game into overtime. The Vikes couldn’t gain an advantage, leaving the Rams with the final score of 31-29.
This week’s two match-ups that will test the team’s strength. Both JV and varsity face West Jefferson at home on Tuesday, January 17.
The girls travel to Worthington Christian on Saturday, January 21.
