Junior Soccer Star Apsara Som

 As dark clouds rolled over Academy, a mass emil arrived in my inbox: “Girls soccer cancelled.” From weather to illness, the team has faced its fair share of setbacks. With small numbers—everyone, from freshman to senior captains—works hard.

Junior captain, Apsara has led her teammates through their struggles to victory.

“I feel really honored [to be a captain]. It’s cool when the refs call captains, and I get to go up there and. . . lead the team,” says Som.

The star also points out that “low numbers and the risk of injuries” are the squad’s biggest challenges, but this Som’s optimistic attitude and confidence no doubt contributes to an impressive 8-2-1 record.

The Vikings are winding up for the post-season. With a goal to make it to district finals and qualify for regionals, the girls look towards the battles ahead.

Senior Night is Wednesday, October 5, against rival Bexley.
