Ever since I have been in high school, Bishop Ready has been our kryptonite. Freshman year, the team started out 9-0, taking down schools like St. Charles, Newark Catholic, and Fort Loramie. With one game to go to have an undefeated record going into playoffs, we ran into Silver Knights, who limited the offense that looked unstoppable all year to just seven points, and the defense, which didn’t let anything in, let up 28. Sophomore year, we got a shot at them again. The same scenario: undefeated team, last game of the regular season. But the Vikings failed to flip the script once again–the Silver Knights took us down 23-14. Junior year, we finally had them at our place and capitalized, winning 29-19. This year, on Friday, October 16, the Vikings looked to break the losing streak at Fortress Obetz. While they came into the matchup undefeated in CBL play (4-0), the Silver Knights looked to claim their first one (0-3). Despite the lopsided game, wide receiver Terrence O.D. said, “You are always going to have to fight to come out of Obetz with a win. No matter what year or who they have on the roster, it is always tough to win there.”
Right from the jump, it was complete domination by the Vikings. On the game’s first drive, quarterback Michael T. threw a touchdown pass to Charlie P. to put the Vikings ahead 7-0, followed by a three-and-out by Ready’s offense. With its second drive of the game, the Vikings marched down the field and finished with a rushing touchdown by Michael T. The Silver Knights were outmatched in all facets, being outscored 42-0.
With this win, our Vikes made history, after failing to win at “the fortress” for nine straight years, with their first loss to the Silver Knights in 2018. Despite the Vikings being 4-5 against the Silver Knights in those 9 years, not one came at their place. With Ready consistently being the Vikings kryptonite, taking the CBL championship for two straight years (2023, 2024), this was a monumental win for the Program as it looks into next week.
This year, the Whitehall Rams host the Vikings for the CBL Championship, with both teams standing at (5-0) in conference play. This game is lining up to be the toughest competition for the Vikings yet.
