Girls Volleyball Heads Into Playoffs

After volleyball’s rollercoaster of games, they ended their regular season. Suffering a 3- 0 loss against Tree of Life on October 12, the Vikes had just a competitive set of 27-25, in favor of the Trojans.

The Vikes rebounded the next day, when they faced Whitehall and honored Seniors, Captain Kyndal S. and Captain Nour S. The ladies dominated this matchup, winning 3-0, commanding the game from start to finish. The girls set the tone early, winning the first set 25-12, the second 25-10, and the final set 25-15. Kyndal and Nour led the victory over the Rams, making their final game in the Mack count. “This game was really special to us, and we wanted to make the most of it as this sport taught me a lot over the last 4 years,” said Kyndal.

The Vikings wrapped up their regular season with a clean 3-1 conference win over a high level CSG team, putting them at 9-13 on the season (7-9 in CBL play). The Vikes came out of the gate swinging, winning the first set 25-17, but things slowed down in the second set, when the Unicorns won 17-25. CA took the third set 25-12 and closed out the fourth and final set, 25-19. Emily N. and Ava Z. made clutch plays across the floor to keep up the Vikes energy.

This is a great win heading into the playoffs as they have struggled when adversity is thrown their way, losing to teams that the Vikes were definitely capable of beating.

“I am really proud of the way we played, and if we carry this momentum into the playoffs, we can definitely make a run,” said Nour.

However, the losing record does not tell the full story of this year’s team, as they have faced hardships through injuries and inexperience, as the majority of the roster are underclassmen who lack playing time at the varsity level. “We have been really impressed by the underclassmen, they show up every day ready to work, and it shows when game time comes around,” said Nour.

The Vikes begin their playoff run on Tuesday, October 20, when they face the third-seeded Centerburg Trojans. This game will be a tall task, as the Trojans are among the top seeds in the tournament, with a 20-2 record this season.
