The Columbus Academy football team stayed hot when taking down its third straight conference opponent, the Franklin Heights Falcons, on Friday, October 2.

Coming off an electric home win on Charlie David against the Lions, the Vikings looked to keep their fire alive as they traveled to Franklin Heights to take on the Falcons. Despite their subpar record of 0-6, the Vikes knew this game wasn’t going to be a cakewalk as quarterback Michael T. said, “They are better than what their record shows. They have played some tough opponents throughout the whole season and have competed with some really good teams. We can’t walk in their thinking. It’s going to be easy.”

After a short week of practice, the Vikes loaded the buses to Franklin Heights. As the game went underway, Academy wasted no time as Michael T. led the Vikings downfield during its opening drive, ending in a touchdown to wide receiver Charlie P. to put Academy ahead 7-0. Franklin Heights did not back down as they put some points of their own on the board, answering back with a solid drive, settling for a field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3.

After an exchange of punts midway through the second quarter, Academy reclaimed control, as Michael threw a frozen rope to tight end Billy G. to extend the lead to 14-3 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Academy kept its foot on the gas as Michael  broke loose for a second-half rushing touchdown of his own, padding the lead in our favor. Running back Baron D. then delivered the knockout blow at the start of the fourth, punching one into the end zone to stretch the lead to 29-3.

Thereafter, Franklin Heights showed late life, breaking through for a touchdown to end their second-half drought. It was far too late, however, as Academy closed out the dominant 29-9 victory.

The Vikings next game is October 9, as the Buckeye Valley Barons visit Hondros to take on the red-hot Vikings in their fourth consecutive league game.
