The Vikes travelled south to battle Lancaster on September 23. The first quarter faced off with an aggressive possession for Academy, controlling the flow of the game favorably. Off the bat, sophomore Sidney J. buried one in the goal to set the momentum. The Vikes refused turnovers and were composed while setting up offensively, eventually leading to another goal by freshman Josie M. Lancaster’s timeout attempted to regain defensive confidence, but failed when Sidney stole the ball on a fast break for her second of the evening. Entering the half, senior captain Katie N. said, “It was important to stay disciplined in order to maintain our lead.” Fortunately, the Vikings returned to the field with composure, dominating the Lancaster defense. On a long possession Ashley H. found Josie, once again scoring to settle a steady lead. The game was finished with Junior leader Makenzie L. weaving her way through defenders and scoring, ending the game at 6-0.

On Saturday morning, the Vikings played one of their toughest matches yet against Olentangy Liberty. The Patriots were ranked above CA, but after a 5-2 win, aided by a hat trick from Sidney, the girls moved up to fourth in their division.

Field hockey sails into next week with an 8-2-1 record.

They play Thomas Worthington, the number 1 seed, on Tuesday, September 29 and face Columbus School for Girls on Thursday, October 1.

Junior Sydney A-L. says, “We’ve been working hard this season and showing that we want the win.”
