Facing one of its toughest stretches of the season, the tennis Vikes competed in five matches over the past week against several tough opponents, finishing with a 2-3 record while showing resilience throughout the demanding schedule.
The week began on Monday, April 27, with a 0-5 loss to Olentangy Orange. Despite the final score, several matches were closely contested. Arnav E. and Luke P. pushed second doubles to a deciding third-set tiebreak before falling 6-2, 5-7, 1-0. Arjun S. battled at second singles, dropping a competitive 6-2, 6-4 match, while Jackson A. also fought hard at third singles.
The Vikes bounced back the following day on April 28, sweeping Ready 5-0. Every position earned straight-set victories including Sujay B. opening the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, while Arjun followed with a strong 6-0, 6-1 victory. Jackson remained victorious at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. In doubles play, duos Ian C. and Jayden T., along with Theo and Luke, both cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win to solidify the effort.
On Thursday, April 30, the Vikings faced another difficult test against Dublin Jerome and fell 0-5. Several positions remained competitive, highlighted by Arjun at second singles, who battled in a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Jackson also earned three games at third singles, while first doubles stayed close in a 6-3, 6-3 match.
Despite the seniors’ final day on Friday, the team reunited to travel to Toledo on Saturday, May 2, for a doubleheader against two powers. In the opening match, the Vikes defeated Ottawa Hills 3-2 in an impressive road victory. Arnav secured second singles in a hard-fought three-set battle, winning 6-3, 4-6, 1-0. Jackson added another point at third singles with a solid 6-3, 6-2 performance. Finally, Theo and Luke completed the win at second doubles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 result.
Later in the day, the Vikings took on St. John’s Jesuit and fell 1-4. The lone point came from Theo and Jackson at second doubles (6-4, 6-4). Several singles matches came against strong opposition, but the team continued to compete hard through the final points of a long day.
Now sitting at 8-8 on the season, the Vikes look ahead to the final week of the regular season with home matches scheduled against Chillicothe on Wednesday and New Albany on Thursday as they continue preparing for postseason play.
