Each spring, the vibrant festival of Holi brings color and community spirit to CA. On Sunday, April 19, students and their families gathered on the Lazarus courtyard to take part in this annual celebration.
Holi, often called the “Festival of Colors,” originates from India and celebrates the arrival of spring, renewal, and the triumph of good over evil. The holiday is widely known for its joyful traditions, including throwing brightly-colored powders, listening to music, and gathering with friends and family. While it holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, it is also appreciated for the sense of unity and happiness it creates.
Our DESI Club and CAPSA (Columbus Academy Parents of South Asia) program organize a Holi celebration each year, bringing students together to experience and share this tradition. This event fills the campus with music, laughter, and bursts of color, creating an energetic and welcoming atmosphere. Students from different backgrounds come together to participate, making it both a cultural celebration and a chance to build connections within the school community.
“It’s great to see everyone work together as a community to organize such a fun and meaningful event,” said Sujay B., DESI’S co-president, highlighting the importance of collaboration in making the event possible. His words reflect the teamwork and education that go into planning the celebration each year.
The annual Holi celebration at CA continues to promote cultural awareness and inclusivity. By sharing traditions like Holi, students help create an environment where diversity is recognized and celebrated, and where meaningful experiences bring the community closer together.
